Pike County carries the distinction of being the eastern most county in KY.

Pike county was formed in 1822. It is located in the Eastern Coal Field region of the state. The elevation in the county ranges from 610 to 3149 feet above sea level. In 2000 the county population was 68,736 in a land area of 787.69 square miles, an average of 87.3 people per square mile. The county seat is Pikeville. It is the largest county in the state.

The Western most county in KY is Fulton

Fulton county was formed in 1845. It is located in the Jackson Purchase region of the state. The elevation in the county ranges from 260, the lowest in the state, to 500 feet above sea level. In 2000 the county population was 7,752 in a land area of 208.95 square miles, an average of 37.1 people per square mile. The county seat is Hickman.

The only monument south of the Ohio River dedicated to Union Soldiers who died in the Civil War is located in Vanceburg, KY.
