Kentucky: Bad portent for the GOP

News of the Day

Kentucky: Bad portent for the GOP?

A taste of the article

Ben Chandler, a former Democratic state attorney general who just three months ago lost a bid for the governor’s mansion, earned a measure of revenge by winning the vacant congressional seat of Ernie Fletcher, the Republican who trounced him in November’s gubernatorial race. “I know what it’s like to be on the other side and it feels pretty good to be on this side tonight,” Mr. Chandler told a cheering crowd at the National Guard armory in Richmond. “It’s been a wild ride for me and my family the last year and a half.”

KET

Frontline’ shows how the rich get richer
Check out this article from the Courier Journal it talks about a show that is airing on KET2 tonite.
Here is a quote

“If you were a big American corporation, bank or business, though, you wouldn’t have to fret because you could make billions in profits and not pay a cent in taxes.”

I find it very interesting how corporate america has been using the loophole system to get out of paying taxes. Maybe the country would be in massive debt if everyone did pay a fair share.
Check out this quote

“A former head of the Internal Revenue Service estimates that honest taxpayers fork over 15 percent more than they should have to because of huge loopholes in the tax laws.”

And this

“So if everybody knows about this swindle, why isn’t anybody doing something about it?

The Republican-controlled House of Representatives has made no moves to correct the situation. “Frontline” says the GOP-dominated Senate has passed broad tax reforms legislation, but the Bush administration and powerful interests, which reap billions by the con games, oppose the reforms, which so far have gone nowhere.”

Kentucky Man Killed Trying To Flee Police
Also, I still cannot believe the people think the police won’t shoot if you run from them. They have guns they are trained to use the guns and they will shoot you. If you have done something wrong and you get caught don’t run, you will get shot!
Granted this guy just ran from the police but the same prinicple applies. Be smart Don’t Run.

Stop Politicians from changing parties
Bill would allow suing party-switching officials

I absolutely agree with this law. Too often you vote for someone and they decide to “change” their politcal affiliation. I believe if they wish to change their party then they should quit and have to rerun for the office during the next election. If they switch they are no longer supporting the people that elected them into office.
